Gone With the Winter

As winter approaches I am humbled by my desire to seek inward. Warmth of summer has passed and inward the earth retreats.

Warmed by a fire and cozily telling myself to begin my work again I sit frozen in time as if examining where I am on this path. Paths are just footprints eternally eroding from the many paws that have traveled them. "A belief is just a thought you keep on thinking," my teacher Lillah put it this way. Just as the mind forms beliefs from habit, so does the body.

Winter also brings travel for me, as it is the off season for my area and important time for family. Travel brings it's own set of challenges that only my yoga toolbox can help solve. I find if I plan ahead for it, I am more likely to use at least some of that planned time to look inside and feel my breath in the moment.

Here's a little guide if your feeling motivated now.

Inhale to a count of 4, exhale to a count of 6, do this at your own speed. Repeat 3-10 times, or set a timer for yourself. Feel free to increase the breathing as you go, breathing into 5 and out to 7, and so on.

Try this anytime, and let your body relax.

May peace and the strength to take care of yourself be with you this holiday season.
